On Tuesday, I made an odd discovery. The kittens LOVE the smell of carrots!
I had recently requested my mother get fresh, whole carrots at the grocery store, as I love to cook with fresh vegetables, especially when I make fettucine and vegetables or veggie tomato soup. :P
Any how, it was getting late, and I decided that I'd eat a carrot for a snack. The kittens had been let out so that they could get out some energy. All of a sudden, Gabriel comes up to me and starts ravenously smelling my carrot and breath.
My curiosity peaked, I bit off a small piece and allowed my little munchkin to much on the veggie, and Gabriel absolutely LOVED it!
Upon looking it up, carrots are actually quite healthy for cats, even though they are considered "human food," along with asparagus or broccoli, green beans, winter squash, and chopped greens. Carrots are even found in certain cat foods. Still, it's important to note that some vegetables are hard to chew or digest when raw, which why, next time I feed Gabriel carrots, I'm going to steam them.
In addition the vegetables, small amounts of fish, preferably fresh and not from a can, as well as little portions of meat, preferably raw, can be given to your feline companion. Cheese and eggs, in tiny servings, can be given as treats for your kitty. It's important, however, to watch for allergies with the eggs, and be sure that the eggs aren't raw, as salmonella and E. coli have become a high risk for humans and animals alike. Also, moderation is key. Never give too much!
Now, some of you might find that he or she simply goes crazy about sniffing the orange veggie. This is normal, as cats like certain foods and dislike others, just as humans do, and kitties are known for being picky. However, many cats love the smells of carrots, sometimes even more than they like catnip. Isn't that neat? x3
Anyways, I just wanted to share this with all of you. Type for you, later~
